Overtime pay calculator

Enter your hourly rate and the hours you worked this week. The calculator splits them at the overtime threshold (40 hours by default) and shows regular pay, overtime pay at time-and-a-half, and your total gross for the week.

How the 40-hour rule works

Under the federal FLSA, non-exempt hourly employees earn at least 1.5× their regular rate for hours over 40 in a single workweek. The important details people get wrong:

Worked example

45 hours at $20/hr with a 40-hour threshold: 40 × $20 = $800 regular, plus 5 × $30 = $150 overtime — $950 total. That extra 5 hours pays like 7.5 regular hours, which is why unplanned overtime quietly wrecks job budgets.
